If You’re Only Getting Paid for Client Time, You’re Missing Out
At RHS Home Care, we believe in fair, transparent pay that recognises the full scope of what it means to be a carer.
Caring doesn’t begin and end at the client’s front door. It includes preparing for visits, travelling across towns and rural areas, and being ready to offer support from the moment you arrive. That’s why we ensure our carers are paid not only for the care they provide, but also for the time and distance involved in getting there with uncapped mileage and travel time payments.
What Carers Are Paid For
We offer a pay structure that covers three key areas:
1. Client Care Time
This is the time spent directly supporting clients — assisting with daily living, offering companionship, and delivering high-quality, person-centred care.
✔️ Pay: €14.00–€23.00 per hour, with premium rates for Sundays and Bank Holidays.
2. Mileage Payment
Mileage refers to the distance travelled to each scheduled care visit.
✔️ RHS Home Care pays per kilometre for each journey made to a client’s home, with no cap on how much you can earn.
3. Travel Time Payment
Travel time is the time spent driving to the client’s home. Unlike many roles where commuting is unpaid, we recognise that this travel is part of the workday.
✔️ Carers are paid for the minutes spent travelling to each scheduled visit, and again there is no cap on how much can be claimed.
Real Travel Earnings: March 2025
Here’s a look at how travel-related payments added up for our carers in March 2025:
-
Mayo: €335.56 in mileage and €415.55 in travel time = €751.11 extra
-
Sligo: €277.53 in mileage and €353.40 in travel time = €630.93 extra
-
Roscommon: €221.26 in mileage and €295.08 in travel time = €516.34 extra
-
Galway: €184.96 in mileage and €277.20 in travel time = €462.16 extra
These amounts were paid in addition to each carer’s regular hourly wage.
